
BUTTE, Mont. --- The South Dakota School of Mines women's volleyball team opened the season Friday at the Montana Tech Tournament in Butte, Mont. The Lady Hardrockers competed against Montana State University --- Northern and Rocky Mountain College on the first day of the two-day event.
"We are already much better this time of year then we were last year," said Hardrocker head volleyball coach Tiffany Mastin-McCampbell.
The 'Rockers dropped both matches Friday, falling to MSU-Northern, 0-3, followed by a tough loss to Rocky Mountain College, 0-3.
MSU-Northern defeated SD Mines, 25-21, 25-17, 25-13 and then Rocky Mountain topped the Hardrockers, 25-15, 25-12, 25-21.
"Despite the losses I saw lots of improvement today," Mastin-McCampbell said. "I was some great play early on from our freshmen Justine Blade and Carly Sandin. Our returning players are really starting to step up as well. Now we just need to work on our consistency and aggressiveness at the net."
The Lady Hardrockers continue the tournament Saturday with matches against the University of Montana-Western at 11 a.m. and Montana Tech at 3 p.m.
