Hardrockers defeat Montana Tech, 13-6

BUTTE, Mont. --- The South Dakota School of Mines football team came through down the stretch to defeat the Montana Tech Oredigers, 13-6, Saturday night on the road in Butte, Mont.

After being tied, 6-6, for a majority of the second half, junior running back Jamie Dale snapped off a long run late in the fourth quarter, which set up a one-yard touchdown run by senior linebacker Everett Brill. Junior Andy Smith added the extra point .

Dale had a nine-yard TD run earlier in the third quarter to account for all the Hardrocker scoring.

Montana Tech’s lone score came in the second quarter when quarterback Matt Komac connected with Jareth Wilson on a 14-yard touchdown pass. Komac completed 17-of-35 passes for 157 yards on the night.

The Hardrocker defense held off a last-second charge by Montana Tech to give Mines a 1-0 overall mark on the season. Brill paced the defense with seven unassisted tackles and two quarterback sacks.

The Hardrockers relied on the running game, covering 185 yards on 41 carries. Dale lead the team with 158 yards on 28 carries.

South Dakota Mines hosts Colorado Mines at 6 p.m. next Saturday at O’Harra Stadium.
