RAPID CITY --- The South Dakota School of Mines women's basketball team is at it again. After logging more than 500 hours of community service last season, the Lady Hardrockers picked right up where they left off during this brand new school year (classes started Tuesday) by teaming with the United Way to participated in the "Day of Caring" program.

Several members of the Lady Hardrocker b-ball team volunteered to help stain a deck and paint a house on the outskirts of Rapid City Thursday afternoon. The student-athletes worked side-by-side with other volunteers from the United Way to accomplish the task. The "Day of Caring" program was established in 1992 by the United Way to promote the spirit and value of volunteerism, increase the awareness of local human service agencies and schools and demonstrate what people working together for the community's good can accomplish.

"This was a great opportunity for our student-athletes to get out in the community and do some good," said Lady Hardrocker head coach Barb Felderman. "The community of Rapid City does so much for our student-athletes. Through the United Way and other volunteer programs, it a chance for us to give something back."

The Lady Hardrocker women's basketball program led the way last year in community service by logging the most hours of all the teams in the SD Mines Athletic Dept. --- and they hope to surpass that this year.
