SIOUX FALLS --- The South Dakota School of Mines women's volleyball team had similar results on Day 2 of the University of Sioux Falls Volleyball Tournament in Sioux Falls, splitting a pair of matches and giving them a 2-2 overall tournament record.
The Hardrockers defeated Dakota Wesleyan University, 3-1, before falling to a solid Grandview University (Iowa) squad, 0-3. On Friday, the Lady Rockers fell to Briar Cliff University, 0-3, and then bounced back to stomp Iowa Wesleyan, 3-0.
The Lady Hardrockers overall record in 3-5 on the season.
"This is a big step in the right direction with this team," Lady Hardrocker head volleyball coach Tiffany Mastin-McCampbell said. "With the loss of JessieGuthals for the season, other teammates like Reanna Roberson and Rachel Pekarek have stepped up and showed their versatility this weekend. Rachel had an outstanding weekend playing libero with 74 total digs."
The Hardrockers open Day two by defeating DWU, 23-25, 25-22, 25-20, 25-21. SD Mines then ran into a talented Grandview team and was defeated, 25-11, 25-20, 25-18.
"With each match we continue to play for each other," Mastin-McCampbell said. "I look forward to the improvement we will see from the upcoming weeks and as the season moves forward."
The Hardrockers continue their month long road trip, traveling to Hastings, Neb., next weekend for the Hastings College Volleyball Tournament.
