
DENVER, Colo. --- The South Dakota School of Mines men's basketball team defeated Johnson and Wales University, 88-73, Saturday night during the JWU Hoops Classic in Denver, Colo. The win is the fourth in a row for the Hardrockers as they improve their overall record to 13-10.
The 'Rockers jumped out to a 43-36 halftime lead and then outscored the Wildcats, 45-37, in the second period. SD Mines shot 60 percent from the field converting 33-55 shots while JWU put in 25-56 for 45 percent.
Individually, senior Tanner Friesen had his second 20-point plus game in as many nights cashing in for 29 Saturday. Sophomore Caleb Shockman had a big game as well with 18 points. Junior Michael Dietz also had a hot hand dishing in 17 points and senior Nate Jacobson added 15.
The Hardrockers are back home this weekend taking on the University of Sioux Falls Friday and Minot State on Saturday.
