RAPID CITY ---- The South Dakota School of Mines men's golf program is not only excelling on the academic  front  ---  earning the top team Grade Point Average (GPA) in the Hardrocker athletics department (3.49) --- it also is developing and solidifying its roster with the addition of two new recruits for the 2010-11 season.

Hardrocker men's head golf coach Eric Glenn is pleased to announce the signing of Brandyn Hunt from Minatare, Neb., and Tyler Frick from Yankton, S.D. Both will enter the SD Mines golf program as freshmen.

"Brandyn and Tyler are veterans on the golf course. They have both been playing competitive golf since before they were freshmen in high school," Glenn said. "They are a welcome addition the Hardrockers' roster and we are hoping they can consistently contribute to our success."

Frick has recorded some impressive scores over his four-year high school career, shooting in the low to mid 70's. As a member of the Yankton High School golf team, he helped the Bucks captured the Eastern South Dakota Conference title all four seasons and aided in placing in the Top 2 at the South Dakota Class AA State Meet all four years.

Individually, Frick earned the runner-up spot at the conference meet as a sophomore and again as a senior. He also finished second at State in a field of over 100 competitors his final high school season.

"Tyler is a talented golfer that comes from a solid program," Glenn said. "He should have no problems adjusting to the college level and I am hoping he can make an immediate impact for the Hardrockers."

Frick earned a spot on the ESD All-Conference team three-consecutive years and was a member of the South Dakota Class AA All-Tournament team as a senior.

Hunt started playing competitive golf during his freshman year at Minatare High School and has shown significant improvement each and every season.  He placed in the Top 10 in the last three conference tournaments. As a junior he advanced to the state tournament after finishing fourth at the district meet. As a senior, Hunt made a return trip to State after securing fifth at Districts.

"Brandyn is a true student of the game and you can tell that he keeps learning and developing each season as he continues to bring his scores down," Glenn said. "He will be a welcome addition to the Hardrocker team."

Hunt was selected to the Star Herald (Neb.) All Region Team twice, making the third team as a junior and then moving up to the second team his senior year.

The Hardrockers begin the fall portion of their schedule Sept. 11 and 12 at the Valley City State Invitational in North Dakota.
